As millions of Syrians have crossed the border to Lebanon to escape the conflict there Christian charity Help The Persecuted has helped a number of Christian converts to flee extreme persecution in Syria and provided them with a safe place to stay at the Haven refuge center.

Many of the persecuted Syrians who witnessed unspeakable horrors have not only encountered a physical peace here, but also the peace of Christ. They also offer trauma counselling, Bibles studies and discipleship classes.

And this is the moment one of those staying at the Haven, Omar publicly declared his new found Christian faith in Lebanon.

It was a deeply emotional moment for this Alawite Syrian refugee who faced extreme persecution in his home country along with his wife and three children.

As well as having a roof over their heads, it’s also become their spiritual home:

Pastor Aziz introduced us to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Through him and Help The Persecuted, I have obeyed and accepted Christ

To become my Lord and Savior and I am one of his children.

What an amazing feeling! I cannot begin to describe it, especially after my baptism.

I no longer worry about burdens that are not mine to carry

Life has taken a beautiful turn.

I no longer worry over what to eat, how to spend, or anything else.

I now have full faith that the Lord is in charge of everything,

And he is behind the steering wheel of our lives.

And recently he shared his testimony with the other residents at the Haven.

Omar’s wife Abida explains the transformation she’s seen in her husband since he accepted Christ:

The change that I have seen in my husband after his conversion

Is beyond what I would have ever prayed or asked for.

Before, there were beatings, cussing and slandering.

But after knowing Christ he flipped 180 degrees.

He became patient and wise

he has really changed!

And his testimony is just one of a number of families who came to the Haven from Syria who’ve have accepted Jesus as their Savior many of them from Muslim backgrounds.

Help The Persecuted field coordinator Leila explains what she attributes to this remarkable spiritual openness:

They saw the Muslim in their country, they killed in the name of their God, but here they saw the love of Jesus. We have the love of Jesus shown in our lives how we treat them.

And Help The Persecuted continues to provide ongoing support to many other Syrian refugee families who encountered the love of Christ as they seek to start a new life in Lebanon.
