In what’s being described as dismantling the greatest obstacle to world mission more people than ever have access to God’s word in their own language. And more communities than ever have taken the first steps towards getting Scripture in the language that speaks to them best.

The greatest obstacle to world mission – the lack of Scripture in people’s heart languages – is being dismantled at an unprecedented rate.
That’s according to Wycliffe Bible Translators UK and Ireland who achieved the highest number of Bible and New Testament launches ever over the past year.
Their CEO is James Poole:
A Bible or a New Testament was completed roughly once every three days somewhere around the world. That meant that 197 million people received the whole Bible in their language for the first time and that matters so much because if we don’t have the Bible, we don’t have a message. And so with the Bible in people’s languages that’s where churches begin to flourish and grow and start to reach out to their communities.
And Poole says their long term goal is make the Scriptures accessible to the entire globe within the next decade:
We think it’s quite possible that within the next 8 to 10 years we could see that reaching to 95% of the population with a Bible in their language. Over 99.9% with a New Testament in their language and 100% of the world’s population with something. So we’d love to get there by 2033, but we don’t know exactly what God has in store.
And to achieve this they are looking to recruit many more people to serve in helping to translate the scriptures into the remaining languages around the world.
