How is a Jewish Festival Helping Ukrainians Stay Mentally Strong During Nearly 5 Years of War? A report from the Jewish Open Space Festival 2026
Shalom. Shalom. We are in the center of Kyiv where the Jewish Open Space Festival of Jewish Culture is taking place.
Let’s go ahead and ask some of the people around here what exactly is happening right now. It’s just a cool event that helps keep our mental health in check during these difficult times. [music] There you go. We are the Jewish community. Woohoo! Oh, a cool event [music] that helps keep mental health in check.
Tell me what do you think? Why do we need such events? [music] Well, I believe that first and foremost, it’s for the people because right now during the war, people really need support. And we talk to people, tell them about our Jewish traditions. You know, we provide support and we [music] pray for the people.
Oh, and here is something about prayer. [music] We have a prayer to God. If you believe in God or maybe even if you don’t, you can write a note [music] and we will pray. The Lord will definitely answer.
I’m here with one of the festival organizers. Where else can you experience a festival like this? in various cities of Ukraine, Europe and beyond and even in America.
One week later and our festival continues and we are promised a concert of Yiddish songs with a DJ. So, let’s go.
I feel this is why I feel my pray.
This is who I am.
Prayer, support, joy. This is exactly what is needed in such dark times. Friends, see you next year.
