Cataract Patients in DRC Receive Practical and Spiritual Sight

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, some people lose their sight either due to old age, intense sun exposure, or even high levels of stress and trauma.

Thanks to the work of medical mission professionals, Samaritan’s Purse is partnering with local churches to perform life-changing cataract surgeries. Each patient receives a double blessing as they leave with clear vision and hearts filled with joy, and they are reminded of God’s mercy and provision.

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness around the world. It’s often related to age and sun exposure. It can also be the result of a traumatic injury.

Dr Dan Gradin – Samaritan’s Purse
When we see someone come in who can barely see movement or light and the day after their surgery they’re seeing their family and their relatives. There’s nothing like that.

Kikwa Ephraim
I suffered with cataracts for a long time. I heard the results, the people who arrived say that we have regained our sight. That’s how I got the grace to come here so I could see clearly. It’s wonderful. The operation went very well. I can see clearly and I can read. It’s nice.

Dr Dan Gradin
Surgeries can be quick. They can be done in 10 or 15 minutes and most people have good results.

Bethany Densham
We can fix somebody’s eye and might restore their vision but our ultimate desire is that the se people will hear the Gospel. That their hearts would be open that Jesus came to die for their sins and that God desires relationship with each and everyone of them.

Dr Dan Gradin
When they hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and they give their lives to Christ, it’s a double blessing. They can see with their eyes, but then they can have their spiritual eyes opened as well.

Abiakwa Monique
I had sadness in my heart wondering when my parents will have money to fix my eyes. Truly I was filled with joy and I thanked God because He has empowered our beloved Samaritan’s Purse and they operated on us well.

Dr Mary Nganga – Samaritan’s Purse
We prayed for the patient when they start surgery and may the Lord touch them. It means a lot to me to help people and that has inspired my life to help somebody to see.

Animbugbe Marie
It is because of the grace of God who came from our friends, we call Samaritan’s Purse because now I’m going to see.

Dr Mary Nganga
We need to reach many, to share our love that these people will see the love of Christ, to reach those who are unreachable.

God can stretch out His mighty hand to grant healing. It is God who heals.

Bethany Densham
We have seen many, many patients come to Christ and so we’re just incredibly grateful for your partnership with us.

Animbugbe Marie
God heard my prayers and those of His children.

I say thank you to the people of Samaritan’s Purse, God bless them.
