Pakistan Church Restored Following Major Mob Attack

Pakistan Church Restored Following Major Mob Attack

Two and half years after a mob of 3,000 Muslim extremists attacked a church in Pakistan, their pastor is still receiving medical treatment for the injuries he sustained. Yet he is faithfully leading his congregation despite the ongoing danger to his life. His church building was restored thanks to support from Christian ministry Help The Persecuted.

GNA reporter Peter Wooding went to the church to see how life is for these persecuted believers in Pakistan where they make up just 1 per cent of the population.

In August 2023 more than 22 churches across Pakistan were attacked by mobs of Muslim extremists, in response to accusations against two Christians facing blasphemy charges.

Churches were torched, crosses torn down and Bibles destroyed.

PETE STAND UP: And I’m here at one of those churches that came under attack. Yet thanks to the support of Help The Persecuted this church was able to reopen and today they’re able to worship. We’re going to go inside now and hear their story from their pastor about the extreme persecution they’ve endured.

And Pastor Noman looks back at that devastating day:

“They came with 3,000 people with bulldozers. We tried to stop them but they beat us with rods.”

“They started damaging the walls of the church and burning the church with a fire. And it was an uncontrollable situation for us and I was badly beaten.”

“I have stomach problems, my liver was damaged very badly. Still I’m taking medicine and having treatment, because I’m not very fine.

However Pastor Noman shares his extreme appreciation for how Christian ministry Help The Persecuted enabled them to restore the building and reopen as a church again:

“I am so thankful for Help The Persecuted. They told us they are going to help us rebuild the church. And by the grace of God Help The Persecuted helped us and now you can see the church has a new building, a new roof. And we are praying for the people who supported us and they are really the apple of our eye.”

And he concluded by requesting ongoing prayer as they continue to deal with the emotional trauma of this attack:

“I have fear in my heart this could happen again. I’m getting threats and my life is in danger.”

“Please keep me in your prayers. My ministry, my people, my church so we never face this kind of incident again.”

And Help The Persecuted remains committed to helping many more persecuted Christians like Pastor Noman throughout Pakistan and the Islamic world where they are now working in 15 countries. In the last year alone more than 100,000 persecuted Christians were rescued, restored, and rebuilt because of your ministry.
