Serving Hurricane-Weary Islanders in Jesus’ Name

Now over a month after Hurricane Beryl tore through the southern Caribbean as a Category 4 and 5 storm, a Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Assistance Response Team is still in the region providing much-needed aid.

They are working together with local churches, many of which had partnered with Operation Christmas Child in the past, to provide communities with relief supplies and share the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

IP-240708-Relief Delivered to Hurricane-Hit Islands

00:00:04

There was a Category 4 storm here, Hurricane Beryl.

00:00:07

A lot of the parts of Grenada were untouched, but these outlying islands were, as you can see, just severely impacted by the storm.

00:00:14

There’s 98% of the homes here have damage, and many of the homes are just completely destroyed.

00:00:21

Before any other organization, whether it be governmental or non-governmental organizations, got into Grenada, Samaritan’s Purse was here.

00:00:32

When you get to an island chain like this, logistics of getting around the islands is very difficult.

00:00:39

Samaritan’s Purse is blessed to have amazing aviation tools. So, we’re actually able to pick up large parcels of cargo underneath the helicopter, and we can fly it out to all these small areas.

00:00:53

One of the hard parts on this island is that the way they get their water is actually from the roofs.

00:00:58

When you lose roofs, you lose water here.

00:01:02

Behind me, we have one of our mobile desalination units.

00:01:06

We’re running three of them total for this project.

00:01:10

We’re actually meeting the drinking needs for water for this entire island, as well as Petite Martinique.

00:01:18

Samaritan’s Purse has deployed a field hospital to meet the needs of Carriacou Island.

00:01:26

We’re seeing a lot of foreign bodies in the feet, some injury with the broken bones, if they have high blood pressure or they have diabetes, dehydration, things like that.

00:01:38

We were actually able to closely replace the health care that was on this island prior so we can really kind of bring the community hope that they can be taken care of through our field hospital.

00:01:51

We needed to do shelter,

00:01:52

We needed to produce water, and we needed to give medical care.

00:01:56

So we’ve done all those things here through desalination units, through a field hospital that we’ve put up, as well as a large TARP distribution.

00:02:04

Our community is being taken care of, and we just want to say thank you for that.

00:02:11

We appreciate it.

00:02:13

My prayer for this area would be, as they receive the distributions and blessings from Samaritan’s Purse, that it will be translated to them really feeling the liquid love of God.

00:02:26

Please be praying for the people that are affected by this storm on all these islands.

00:02:31

Be praying for the volunteers that are coming alongside of us every day and going out into the community.

00:02:36

And just pray that God is glorified through this.
