Sudanese Tuk Tuk Driver Risks Life para Protect Others

Sudanese Tuk Tuk Driver Risks Life to Protect Others

When people from Amir’s church started evacuating from the conflict in Sudan he refused to leave until everyone had safely escaped. He was eventually able to leave with his family, not just because of the fighting but also after facing intense persecution for his Christian faith even being held at gunpoint. But when his family first arrived in Egypt to start a new life they had nothing.

That was until Christian ministry Help The Persecuted stepped in to help him start his own Tuk Tuk business.

GNA reporter Peter Wooding took a ride with Amir and heard more of his story.

Pete Stand Up:

We’re here in Egypt where literally million of Sudanese are fleeing conflict, intense persecution and the Christians that have been persecuted for their faith when they arrive here have no source of income. We’re going to hear the remarkable story of one father who was a youth worker in his church literally held at gunpoint. He fled with his wife and his four children to Egypt and we’re going to hear the story of how God has provided for him to feed his own family…

VO: And that provision came through the Enduring Livelihood ministry of Help The Persecuted who provided Amir with the help to develop his own business, including this Tuk Tuk you see him driving, which has enabled him to feed his own family who had nothing when they first arrived.

Amir looks back at their miraculous escape from Sudan with his family. He refused to leave his church back home until everyone else was safe:

The ware pushed everyone out of Sudan. It scattered us. My family and I were living in Sudan before the war. But we had to leave and flee for our lives. But I could not leave without making sure that all my brothers and sisters at the church were safe. I stayed behind until everyone left and prayed that they make it out safely

Amir’s face lit up when he remembered the moment he was told he would be given this Tuk Tuk to start his own business:

It was a feeling I cannot describe. I do not have the words for it. I was so happy when I received the support. It was so hard to provide a living for myself and my family. I tried everything, but I could not provide enough. But when you called and told me that I would be having my own Tuk Tuk, I could not believe it at first. Then I went to church and it was true.. I was then able to provide for my family. You gave me hope and God gave me this blessing and I am thankful and overjoyed.

And many more Sudanese refugees like Amir are seeing their lives rescued, restored and rebuilt thanks to the ministry of Help The Persecuted.
