INTRO: The African Children’s Choir is singing its way across Canada on their fortieth anniversary tour. VO:  Singing is an art that expresses feelings through Melodies. Something to express their intense love for God while also exalting him. Others, however, use this beautiful talent which opened doors to better paths. A group of 18 children with their spectacular voices celebrates the 40th anniversary of the African Children’s Choir during their Canada tour.

Tina Sipp, Manager, Africa Children’s Choir
And now here we are, 40 years later, being helped by churches, sponsors, host families. This has been 40 years of faithfulness of the Lord. They’re from very impoverished backgrounds, but it doesn’t define them.

When the children are selected, they come to our training center for one whole year, so they go to school for six months, just schooling. During that whole time, there’s morning devotions and evening devotions with their African staff. Then the next six months, it’s schooling and rehearsal, and the devotional program continues.

So by the time they come on tour, they’ve been exposed to a lot of the Bible. We have our own secondary school, which has six levels. We pay their post-secondary education as well. Our four African chaperones that are with them, the four African adults, were all members of the choir when they were children.

Education’s very important in this life, but the word of the Lord is what’s going to remain.”

VO: Every year different African children participate in a three month tour, which includes around 20 children whose voices inspire hope. For the Global News Alliance, I’m Heidi Echavarría, Bridge City News.
