Chuppah, ketubah, kiddush
and the breaking of the glass – all of these are essential elements of a traditional Jewish wedding. But what makes it so special? Watch the story to find out!
Our Jewish congregation weddings are always filled with joy, warmth, and unforgettable emotions that remain with us for a long time
Just the entrance of the bride and groom is one of the most sensational and exciting parts of the ceremony. The groom comes out first and waits for his chosen bride under the Chuppah – the traditional wedding canopy.
(DENNIS) It symbolizes God’s protection, that we are under it both during the wedding ceremony and throughout our life together as a family.
Under the Chuppah, the bride must circle the groom seven times, according to the Tanakh, allowing the fullness of God’s blessings to pour out upon them.
These are truly special moments, the union of a man and a woman, a covenant that the Lord has entrusted to them to carry before each other and to uphold, creating a very special and intimate atmosphere
The next step is when the bride and groom read the Ketubah (Ke-too-bah) – a traditional Jewish marriage covenant that contains heartfelt promises and a list of marital vows.
I promise to support you in the unfolding of your calling.
I promise to reflect the image of our Savior in our family.
Another very important sacred act is the Kiddush (Ki-doosh), or communion.
It symbolizes communion, not only with each other, but with the Lord. Every marriage should be founded and based on communion and contract with God the Father
And to officially mark the creation of a new family, the bride and groom light a single candle using two individual candles.
The two flames becoming one symbolizes the new life together that’s born. And in the Scriptures it is written that a man shall leave his father and mother and cling to his wife, and the wife to her husband, and they shall become one flesh. In the spiritual realm, this is like one person.
The husband, as the head of the family, performs another interesting tradition – he breaks a glass by crushing it with his foot, symbolizing how he will overcome obstacles and problems that may arise in the path of the newlyweds.
The conclusion of the ceremony is a true celebration, filled with joy and Jewish circle dances.
(Inna) We were really nervous, but it felt like being at home, in our spiritual family, so we are glad that everything turned out exactly like this.
It’s simply incredible, it’s like heaven has come down to earth.
