An international children’s charity is warning of a catastrophic food crisis in South Sudan.
World Vision reports 7.8 million people – 56 per cent of South Sudan’s population – are projected to face devastating levels of food insecurity in the coming months.
Approximately 2.2 million children aged 6 months to 5 years old are projected to suffer from acute malnutrition
Mesvin Loha World Vision’s Country Program Director for South Sudan explains how they’re responding to the crisis:
Our priority focus is on preventing malnutrition, but also facilitating treatment of acute malnutrition of children including this with acute complications.
But also beyond the emergency response we have several food security livelihood interventions that promote food security improving livelihoods for communities.
Loha says they’re also working with churches to help children with spiritual and emotional needs.
