Ebola Treatment Centers Serving Patients at Epicenter of Outbreak

Samaritan’s Purse has established Ebola Treatment Centers in Bunia and at a longtime partner mission hospital in Nyankunde, a medical facility that has been at the forefront of the response since the outbreak was declared in May.

The opening of the two centers in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) follows many days of around-the-clock transport of supplies and personnel, construction of containment and treatment wards, and training local medical workers in Ituri Province.

Ebola reminds us that this world is not the way that it should be. So we can put our faith in Jesus Christ, and we can trust that God will be with us. And you can know that Samaritan’s Purse will stand with you till the end.

Today we’re open and treating patients that are Ebola treatment center in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Ebola treatment center is set up to isolate patients to prevent transmission in the community, but also to provide high quality care with specialized equipment, specially trained staff and dignity to those who are suffering from this disease.

Patients might end up being our treatment center for weeks. We’ve designed this so that every patient has a window in their room where the family can safely come and see the patient. It takes a lot of resources to build this. It takes the support from the Ministry of Health, from the local government and other partners on the ground.

We consider Samaritan’s Purse a valuable partner.

And today they are here to strengthen us in this pandemic, which is as the governor says is the second war in Ituri. We really appreciate them for their support and assistance.

I would like to cite what Jesus says: ‘Come to me all who have burdens and I will give you rest.’

We hope this will be a space of rest and healing.

Communities here have already been facing conflict and insecurity for many years, and now you’re facing an Ebola crisis.

We’re here to tell people that there’s a savior. If they put their faith in him, they can have eternal life with God in heaven. That there’s not just hope for medical care. There’s not just hope to recover from Ebola, but there’s hope for a time in heaven where there will be no more sickness. We want people to know the love of Jesus Christ because of the care that they’re receiving here.

So we’re going to be here in the fight against Ebola as long as we need to be.
