When Indra Maya* started following Jesus, her family and community in Nepal pressured and persecuted her. But that didn’t diminish her faith. Instead, she kept praying. She trusted that God would answer her prayers.

My Lord has helped me through suffering and hardship. I don’t have any riches. I don’t have a house of my own, nor do I have land. But God has given me life, and I’m really grateful to God for that.
Once I started going to church, I faced a lot of persecution in my life. I was my husband used to torment me a lot by questioning me about what good had come from going to church. He used to scold me when I used to set aside my tithes and offerings, saying that if I give that much money to the church, he wouldn’t give me food.
The persecution that I faced in my village is that they made me perform various religious rituals, and I was expected to participate in those rituals, but I didn’t take part in such things because I knew that if I did, my actions would be against God. We moved somewhere else to avoid such things. I was very sad when I had to leave that house.
We even faced a lot of difficulties after moving here as well.
Christian converts in Nepal often experience pressure and opposition from their communities and even their own families. But that didn’t stop into Maya. She stood firm in her faith and kept praying for change.

We shouldn’t lose hope and be sad. We shouldn’t fall back just because we are facing persecution. There are times when I face a lot of persecution problems or worries and times when I just feel like crying. But God continues to give us victory over these things. My husband was also baptized after 6 or 7 years. He started believing in Christ.
I had been paying a lot for this. I had even fasted for 40 days and prayed and cried about it to God, and I didn’t immediately get the answer to my prayers. It took time. And to the people who are watching this video and listening to my testimony, some might be suffering, some might be going through hardship, and some might be depressed.
And no matter how much you pray, you might feel sad that it feels like your prayers are not being answered. But we should not feel discouraged because God gives us what we need. God is great and God is strong.
Indra Maya attends a weaving center supported by Open Doors local partners, along with other women who’ve experienced persecution.
And not only gives them the dignity of earning a wage, but also offers a place where they can share their problems and support each other.

My pastors and everyone else who has opened their hands to help us. I am very grateful for their support. I pray that this will be a place where we can help one another, where people who are suffering can come and find work, and where they can gain strength in God.
