In Venezuela, the air is heavy with loss and the reality of the intense destruction of June’s double earthquakes.
With tens of thousands of people still missing, families don’t know if their loved ones are buried beneath collapsed infrastructure or if they may have been rescued. As families camp in tent groups while they wait together, Christian charity Convoy of Hope continues to deliver water and tens of thousands of meals to survivors and responders.

In Venezuela, we are not used to earthquakes. It has always been said that it is a blessed country. There are never earthquakes or hurricanes, nothing like that. So these kind of events takes us very by surprise. We are not prepared. We have no experience with these.
Everyone lost someone. Some lost their entire family. And those who didn’t lose their life were left completely homeless with nothing. And those are the most basic needs I see right now. Like feeding those people. Hydrating those people.
Convoy of Hope has been here for several days delivering food and water to people in need, serving those people who are now homeless.
If we weren’t helping, I know many people would not have eaten or drank anything for several days. So what we have done, it has had an impact. It has helped them eat and stay hydrated.
I feel good that at least I’m doing my bit that I lead and helping my fellow Venezuelans.
We are helping them now in these, critical first week. But that state of emergency will end, and these people will still be her in tents, and then they will still be homeless. This is not a one week job. It’s help that needs to be provided for one month two months, three months, while these people manage to get their homes back.
