Amid personal loss during the devastating Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, medical workers are training with Samaritan’s Purse staff to save lives and stop the spread of disease.

Samaritan’s purse likes to come alongside communities to show them that they are loved and not forgotten, and that Jesus sees each one of them in their time of need. So we’re currently constructing two Ebola treatment centers simultaneously, both in the community of Buna and Nyakunde. Communities are overwhelmed. Hospitals, local medical facilities are overwhelmed, and this helps relieve the pressure on them.
Because it’s a much larger facility, it takes a lot more people and help from the community to make this happen. So we are currently training many local providers, to be working in our hospital on site with us. There are two doctors.

Sanitation and hygiene in Ebola is extremely important is what protects us and prevents us from spreading this virus even further.

Two of our pastors have died, six people in my neighborhood who died. That’s why I left everything behind to come and fight this disease. I wanted to work with Ebola because I still have a little experience with the 2019 Ebola outbreak with Samaritan’s Purse. Rare are people who come to help someone who is suffering. What I see is love for one’s neighbor.

Every day people are suffering and hospitals are losing their staff because health care workers are at the front line. And just pray that we’d be able to help them as quickly as possible, that we would be glorifying God in this.
