Comforting Flood Survivors in Texas

Edward Graham, COO of Samaritan’s Purse, joined volunteers in Kerr County, Texas, to encourage and pray with survivors of the deadly flash floods that tore through the region in the early hours of July 4.

Graham comforted families with Scripture, and encouraged them to cling to Jesus in this time of heartbreak. He also spurred on Samaritan’s Purse volunteers as their full response in the region begins.

I’m here in Kerr County, Texas, and right behind me is the Guadalupe River. Horrific flooding came through and destroyed large parts of the communities that were on the banks of this river. A lot of those were summer camps. We’ve also heard about large numbers of loss of life, especially with children. This community is hurting. There’s so many grieving with the loss and they need our prayers.
It’s going to be hot. It’s going to be dirty. But Lord, we thank you that we get a loved one, a family, one of your families.

The heavy lifting has been lifted by Samaritan’s Purse, and that just makes my heart feel so good because our bodies are tired and we’re exhausted, and now we feel lifted up. It’s wonderful that you guys are here, and we appreciate it.
Edward
The water just came right through and took mud and debris right through their walls. And I was at many of those homes today with our volunteers that are already out serving in these communities where we’ll cut back the drywall and we’ll dry out, take the furniture to the street so it can be removed and thrown away, and we’ll get it ready for contractors to come in.
But the biggest thing is to prevent mould, and we spray the solution here so the house won’t create mould. But we do all this to volunteers and we do it through the local churches. We want this community know they’re not forgotten that their love God hasn’t forsaken. Matter of fact, he loves them so much that he sent his only son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross.
And that’s why we come. So if you’re watching this and you want to do something about it first, pray. I believe in the power of prayer. But also you can go to Samaritan’s purse.org, and you can figure out how you can volunteer right here and do something right now in this part of Texas. So thank you. We continue to pray for Texas.
