A student ministry that first began on the campus of UCLA in 1951 is celebrating 75 years of God’s faithfulness.
CRU, formerly known as Campus Crusade For Christ has now grown to a global ministry in 190 countries. GNA reporter Peter Wooding speaks to CRU’s President David Robbins to find out how this ministry has grown into an international movement.

When he first pioneered a university student outreach at UCLA in Southern California back in 1951 Bill Bright had no idea as to the remarkable extent this ministry would have 75 years later.
CRU formerly known as Campus Crusade For Christ, has since grown to a global movement ministering on thousands of campuses across the world today.
Their president David Robbins reflects on some of their most impactful moments over the past 7 and half decades:
There’s the early days at UCLA that’s grown to a campus movement on 4,000 campuses worldwide. You really can’t talk about the ministry of CRU and Campus Crusade for Christ without talking about the four spiritual laws as a transferable way to share about Jesus. And God’s used it immensely. And that innovation of how you put a transportable tool into the hands of every follower of Jesus that has birthed all sorts of creative ways to share the Gospel.
There’s the Jesus Film being released back in the late 70s. And it’s incredible to see how God keeps using this most translated film in history to plant churches in hard to reach places. And people who share Jesus saying their next yes and helping others do the same. And that’s what I celebrate most when I look back.
So what does Robbins attribute to the longevity and the worldwide impact they continue to have in 190 countries across the globe:
I think it has grown into a global organization because we have always put at the front raising up local people. We may send missionaries out but it’s always with the desire of raising up local people because they know the local context the best and know how to share their faith with local people the best and so we hope to keep growing into many centers of mission all over the world.
And as part of Cru’s celebration of 75 years of God’s faithfulness the ministry is launching several initiatives designed to inspire, unite, and engage Christians in the mission of sharing the gospel: including a 75 day prayer challenge.
