A catastrophic flash flood devastated Nepal last month, destroying homes, roads, and bridges, killing hundreds and displacing thousands. Some areas are accessible only by helicopter.
Mercy Chefs and local partners are providing food to hundreds of families in urgent need.

Hey guys, I’m Carl with Mercy Chefs Global, and we’re here in central Nepal responding after this river behind me turned into a rushing torrent and ripped through this valley just a few days ago. We’ve been serving over 100,000 grocery meals to communities and families who have lost everything. This river, when it flooded, it was about a 30-foot wall of destruction that ripped through this valley, completely devastating their lives.
We’ve been honored to be able to be here to work with our local partners. We’ve had an ongoing feeding program here in Nepal for over a year now. So when this flood happened, we were able to quickly move resources, and our team was able to quickly move to start meeting the pressing need that was in this region.
Families that are, that have been affected by this flood have lost everything. They didn’t have much before this flood, but the flood took everything. It took loved ones, it took their home, it took their occupations, it took their livelihood, it took their farms, it took their… Anything they had to, of their own, it’s gone.
And so it’s been humbling to sit with these families, to hear their stories, to share meals with them, and to give them groceries. The grocery kits we’re giving will last these families about a month, and, and it’s amazing the hope that it brings them. The, the way that their complexion changes, their outlook changes when these mothers recognize that they finally have something to feed their kids.
They haven’t been able to feed them the last several days. Now they can feed them today and for the days ahead. So to see that hope infuse their face and in their lives has been a beautiful thing. Even though they’ve lost everything, they’re still generous to us. We had a family that had a bunch of bananas that they had saved from the flood, and they tore some off and gave it to us.
We wanted to buy them, and they refused to let us pay for them. What little they had, they wanted to give to us generously. The Nepalese people have been so beautiful. It’s been amazing to work with the local church here. It’s coming around and, and serving their own people. This is a hard region, especially for the church, and we were doing a grocery distribution, and a man pulled one of our team aside and, and kind of, uh, behind a vehicle and said, “Please, do you have a Bible?”
It’s just amazing that in the midst of devastation, in the midst of, of loss, we’re encountering so much goodness as well, goodness of people, hope reinfusing into families, and people encountering Jesus for the first time. Just wanna say thank you for sending us, thank you for standing with us, for supporting Mercy Chefs and therefore supporting the people of Nepal as they, they recover, uh, from this devastating flood.
