Soccer Outreach in World Cup Host Nation Mexico Despite Persecution

As Mexico is one of the host nations for the World Cup, many Christians have mixed feelings as they face ongoing persecution there.

Despite this they are using soccer ministry opportunites to share the love of Christ.

I am very proud that Mexico will host the World Cup although I also have mixed feelings due to the insecurity.

This region is largely governed by different criminal groups. Missionary work interferes with their interests as a criminal organization, because I speak directly about the transformation that God can bring to a person’s life.

Preaching Christ can cost you your life. So as missionaries we must be very wise. We shared the word of God through football, through football training, football matches with at least 120 young people from the area.

By impacting the lives of young people we have impacted the lives of entire families.

Open Doors has supported us directly through spiritual training. I think we would not have been able to remain in this place.

Seeing them every week and spending time together on the football pitch opened girl’s hearts. By ending the training session with prayer or with a phrase, a verse and a word of encouragement for them, that’s how we were able to introduce the Gospel into their lives.
